Yuan Ching's founding Principal

It saddens us that Yuan Ching's founding Principal, Mr Chou We Chuan has passed away on 30 May 2020.

As the first Principal of Yuan Ching Secondary School, Mr Chou has built up the school processes from scratch, commissioned the creation of the school emblem, our school uniform, school song, school flag and more importantly, the Yuan Ching culture.

During Mr Chou's stint as Yuan Ching's Principal from 1978 to 1984, he strongly encouraged students to be bilingual, be active in serving the community, and adopt a healthy physical lifestyle by taking part in sports activities. Under his leadership, among many other accolades, it is notable that Yuan Ching's Basketball Team clinched the National Basketball Championships in 1984.

Mr Chou strongly believed that every student can learn and all students should be given equal opportunities to realise their full potential. He was fair, friendly and firm to all staff and students alike. In fact, his message that was written in 1980s is still relevant today:

We will remember Mr Chou for his contributions to Singapore's education service and Yuan Ching Secondary School, and may his spirit lives on.

Rest in peace, Mr Chou!
